Describe:
The task for this project was to create a sculpture that in some way represented the holiday Dia De Los Muertos. We were in groups for this project, and the main objectives were to create a two-foot high structure and use a variety of materials including paper mache, cardboard, tissue paper, etc. We learned to work as a team and create a durable, festive sculpture. Our structure was a female skeleton who is dressed up in a gown and crown. Her hair, flowers, and crowns are made up of tissue paper. Her skirt, torso, arms, and belt are made out of cardboard. Her head is made out of paper mache.

Analyze:
One element of art shape helps develop the principle of design proportion. The shape of her skirt is big compared to her body, and so it almost throws off the proportion from top to bottom of the figure. Her head and torso are smaller, and then her dress is big and full of large flowers. This is important to the piece because it represents the Spanish culture of celebrating death by dressing up. Big dresses and costumes are common, and they see this look as representative to what the deceased wear while celebrating.

Interpret:
The message of this structure is celebration of death. Death in the Spanish culture isn't mourned but celebrated and treated as just another step to your happiness. The bright colors of her skirt and hair represent the joy and celebration of the holiday. The mood of the sculpture is very festive and happy. The bright colors and flowers on her skirt give the sculpture a festive look.

Evaluate:
This piece overall was pretty successful. Her look was exactly what we wanted and intended, however we could have cleaned her up a little, especially concerning the hot glue and painting. However I like her look with the variety of colors, and the intricate designs we put on her clothing and face. I enjoyed the process because it was fun working in a group, and I felt like we were given a lot of freedom to work with what we wanted.
