Describe:
The task of the project was to capture our personal feelings the first day of school through a pencil drawing. We had to represent our emotions on the first day of school through symbolic images. Key skills that we were developing in this project was using different shading techniques to create depth and representation of our emotions, whether they were "dark" or "light" feelings. We used different pencils, since it was a pencil drawing. I used the 4B pencil. In this drawing, I decided to represent the feeling of loss and how I lost my freedom when I came back to school. This image is set in the summer, however the grasses and the flowers are started to wilt and lose life. The bee feels lost and confused, representing how when we come back to school we are troubled and stressed. The wind blowing the dandelions away represents how our freedom is being "blown away" by school.

Analyze:
The element of art lines in the drawing help demonstrate the principle of design movement. The lines are curved upwards in both the stems and the grass which indicates that the grass is being moved by some force such as the wind. These qualities give the drawing a realistic interpretation of nature and the different forces in nature. These two characteristics show the reader that the grasses and dandelions are being warn out by the wind and are slowly vanishing. This idea represents the feeling of my freedom slowly vanishing. This element and principle are important to the piece because they depict how summer is now vanishing when we return to school.

Interpret:
The mood of this piece is very mournful and exemplifies a lost feeling. The wilting of the dandelions represent the wilting feeling when you return back to school. The broken off parts of the dandelions that are flying away is the freedom which students have lost from the summer. The bee, which is flying around the dead grasses, is confused and feels lost because it is trying to find big and bright flowers that the summer brings. The purpose of this piece is to show that our freedom as students is important to us, and when the majority of our freedom and rest is taken away from us we feel lost and sorrowful. When our time during the summer is taken, the flowers start to die and the grass starts to wilt.

Evaluate:
I am very proud of this piece and its overall mature look. I feel that this piece represents my emotions fairly well from the first day and it was successful. One area of improvement would be to make the grass more realistic and blurred so we truly get affect of confusion and the wilting of the grass. I also wish I had put some images in the background so it wasn't just a black background, however some could say that helps emphasize the main scene. I enjoyed the process because I love to draw, and it was really nice to put a lot of my feelings into a piece. The final outcome was exactly what I imagined it to be: mature and very expressive.
