Week 1:
Night 1: Portal
When I first heard the word "portal", I thought of my eyes and how I could incorporate a portal-like look into them. I decided to color my eyes because it looks like there are portals inside them with a black hole in the middle. I really like the color contrast between the black and white and the bright colors in my eyes, making the picture very fantastical and unreal.
Night 2: The Beast
The theme "The Beast" first made me think of fear and monsters. I wanted to have a dark and scary picture, and I thought having claw marks would not only be very scary but tie in well with the theme. In this picture I am the beast, and the tone is very mysterious and dark.
Night 3: Lost You
For this day, I wanted to have a tone that expressed longing and a running away feel. I thought not facing the camera would make a bigger impact and have a certain intensity to it that would really show the theme. I edited the photo in a way that made colors pop, such as the green in the background and the darkness of my hair.
Night 4: Finding the Beast
When I think of "Facing the Beast" I think of a monster and fear. I wanted to do a black and white picture so it can bring out the fear and mystery. I also wanted to go with the theme by having me face something, so I decided to go into the lightroom and have someone create shadow figures with their hands while I look at them. This definitely is a resemblance of the theme.
Night 5: The Thaw
For this picture I wanted a bright, warm colors in a cold color setting. I took this picture on a trip, and I see these bright colors with a black and white background as a thawing/warming picture. It adds warmth to the cold photo, which was what I wanted.
Week 2:
Night 6: Find Me
I took this picture on the plane and I wanted this night's picture to have a distant and longing feel to it. This picture shows that I am in the sky and for someone to come find me. I made the colors more vivid and I darkened the edges to give a distant feel.
Night 7: 7 Seconds
I chose this picture because they're seven objects: 6 branches and my arm. In this picture it seems that I'm waiting for something, and I could be waiting for 7 seconds, making it very dramatic.
Night 8: The Prisoner
For this picture, I wanted a trapped and enclosed feeling. I took this picture in Kansas, and the horse is the prisoner. I made the photo black and white to show the intensity of the picture.
Night 9: Like Stardust Waits
For this picture, I wanted to incorporate some form of sparkles or dark colors. I decided to put glitter on my face and take pictures of my cheekbones especially. The glitter incorporated in it ties in with the theme very well, and even though this picture in my opinion wasn't the best picture I've taken, it still shows uniqueness and has abstract elements in it.
Night 10: On the Evening Sky
I chose this picture because I took it during the evening and it has a mysterious and dramatic look. I darkened the picture to bring out my features more and to make the background more defined. The sky is a pale blue, which gives the feeling of the approaching night.
Week 3:
Night 11: The Portal: Revisitation
I chose this picture because it's blurry and it reminds me of the inside of a portal. It has a moving quality to it. I wanted to do something different from the other portal picture just so that I could get some variety in my pictures. I made the photo darker and blurred it a little more so that it can show the portal like quality.
Night 12: Purity of Purpose
For this picture, I wanted to have the color white incorporated into it. I think of white as purity and it would bring out the theme if white was in the photo. I chose this picture because my white shoes and a white railing are in the picture, emphasizing purity. I also wanted to branch a little away from the theme, too, so some parts of the picture are blurred. I am also walking, emphasizing the purpose part of the theme.
Night 13: Beyond All
For this picture, I wanted it to be really dramatic and intense. I first thought of the galaxy, but then I took this picture and I really liked how it gave a distant and "beyond all" feel to it. I am away from everyone else in the world in this picture, and it exemplifies the theme by showing the loneliness.
Night 14: The Prismatic Experience
For this picture, my friends took a picture of my eye surrounded by a CD. There was a flashlight shining on it, showing the rainbow in the reflection. This gives a 3-D, prismatic feel to it. It also looks like a dimension, which also relates to the theme. I made the colors brighter to show more pop. I also made the edges darker to give a portal-like feel to it.
Night 15: The Kaleidoscope Being
For this theme, the first thing I thought of was "narrow". I decided to use a tube and take a picture through it to have the narrow feel to it. I made the picture more blue to have a brighter color look to it. This picture is very mysterious and it shows a distant look.
Week 4:
Night 16: A Worrier's Journey
I chose to take a picture of my hands holding on to another person's hand because it shows that I am there for that person and that I will go through their journey with them. We took the picture against a black wall to have a dramatic affect, and I darken the edges to show the struggle my friend is going through.
Night 17: The Misty Veil of Rebirth
I took this picture behind the trees because it shows a "veil", relating to the theme. It also shows happiness and brightness, which can represent the positive rebirth. I edited the picture in a way so that the picture is tinted more yellow to show the warm and happy feeling. I like how in this picture that my face isn't focused because it shows more of the "mist" in the theme.
Night 18: Black and White, Loss and Deceit
For this picture I wanted something more serious and sad. I saw the thorn bushes in front of the school and thought that would help carry the theme that I wanted. I wanted to be sort of in the thorns so I sat behind them so they were more visible. I made the picture black and white of course and I also darkened the edges of everything to bring out all the features and sharpness in the picture.
Night 19: The Discipline of Passion
When I thought of this theme, I wanted to do something with the color red. For this day, we all went to the theater prop room and got stuff that had red in it. We found this umbrella and I really wanted to use it because it reminded me of elegance and drama I needed for this photo. I wanted to be facing the back to have that extra dramatic affect, and I edited the colors to make the red pop more.
Night 20: The Day
For this picture, I wanted to have a dramatic and strong feel. I found a puddle on the front lawn of the school and I thought of taking a photo of my reflection. I decided to incorporate my shoes so that it shows my strong stance and the mystery. I made the photo darker at the edges but more light in the middle to add the sharpness and mystery.
Night 21: Knocking on the Door
For this picture, I wanted to be cheesy and take a picture of myself knocking at a door. The photo was originally taken sideways and I left it like that to show some more abstract ideas. I made the photo black and white to have a dramatic look to it.
Night 22: Find Another Day
I wanted to incorporate the sun light into my photo for this theme because it reminds me of the day. I chose to stand like this because it shows that I'm breaking through something and embracing a new day. I made the picture brighter and have more vivid colors to bring out the colors of the day.
Night 23: The Release of Knowing
I wanted to do something with my hands for this picture, primarily showing someone giving me something as a "release". I liked the idea of shadows and I so I decided to use this in the photo. My friend and I posed and it shows that she is "releasing her knowledge" and giving it to me. I made the picture more warm toned and I made the edges more dark to add that dramatic affect I like so much.
Night 24: Passionately Alive
I saw this painting in the art hallway and I loved all the different colors and shapes found in the painting. I wanted to incorporate that into my photo. I chose this picture because I'm laughing and it shows that I'm actually moving and living in the moment. I brightened all the colors because it shows the more vibrant and passionate parts of life.
Night 25: Defiance of Reason
I saw the yield sign outside of the school and I thought it would be cool to incorporate that into my picture. I am next to the sign in this photo and the way I am positioned shows that I'm more relaxed with the rules and I am sort of defying the law. I made the shadows and blacks in the photo more dark to sharpen the edges but then I made the exposure brighter to show more detail in the photo. I added a red tint to the photo because I think of red as a defying and powerful color.
Night 26: The Color Red
When I thought of this theme, I of course thought of the color red. Since there is a hallway all covered in red, I wanted to go there and take pictures. I am a dancer and I decided to do something with dance because I think of red as a passionate color and dance is my passion. The blurriness in the photo kinda reminds me of just letting loose and living everything to the fullest.
Night 27: Clarity
I thought of the fog and rain that we had during this day and I wanted to do something with a rain drop. We went outside and I saw the rain drops on the leaves. I wanted to have the clarity of the rain drops with my hand somehow incorporated into it. I found a drop that was about to fall and I decided to take a picture of that. I made the colors a lot warmer to show the season of fall and I made everything blurry except my fingers and the raindrop to show clarity.
Night 28: Let It Be
For this picture, I wanted to show myself not caring about what's happening in the world and just relax. I'm lying down to show that sometimes you just have to relax and let things be. I made the colors contrast more so that it shows the deep pinks which are my thoughts and then the light grays and darker colors to represent conflicts around the world. It shows that I just have to let things go and not care about things.
Night 29: Under the Night Light
I wanted to do something with the black junior hallway and I decided to use the black streamers they have hanging up and incorporate that into my photo. I stood behind the streamers and we turned the flash on the camera to have that contrast with the darkness. I made the colors more vivid to show purples and blues to create a night-like feel.
Night 30: Thirty
For this picture I wanted of course to do something with the number 30. I decided to take a picture of my friends' and mines hands to show all of our thirty fingers. I made the picture black and white to show the contrast of dark and light colors and also to make the picture more dramatic. I really like this photo because a rustic quality to it.
Night 31: The Grand Finale
For this final picture, I wanted to have a simple photo of myself. I feel like since all these pictures are my artwork, the last grand picture should be a sweet and simple photo of myself. I feel like this picture captures who I am, therefore capturing all of these photos into one idea. I made the colors a little more vibrant and light but besides that, this is me.
